JUNE 8th, 2019
Expedia.ca reports that when it comes to small towns with big beer scenes, Penticton still dominates.
Cannery Brewing Co. picked up some new silver and bronze medals in the 2018 awards season for Heist Maple Stout and Thornless fruit beer; They also just won gold for Skyler Punnets incredible lable art on the Sunblink Sour; Bad Tattoo Brewing took home Best Pilsner at this year’s Fest of Ale, and our newest Brewery Slack Water Brewing snagged peoples choice. What’s the Fest of Ale? Well, if you have to ask, we question your dedication to the craft, but we’ll humour you: It’s an amazing and super-popular beer fest that takes place in Penticton every April. There are plenty more events in this thriving community, too, like the Penticton Beer Run, which happens in June, or a beer crawl along the Penticton arm of the BC Ale Trail. Needless to say, you’ll have some epic tales of tannins and esters after a visit to this sessionable city.
With an increased number of breweries and participants, the course has changed!
This year’s course will start at Highway 97 Brewery and finish at D’Angelo Estate Winery with spectacular vistas of Okanagan Lake and the valley. Starting right at one of the local breweries, participants will make their way along the lake shore and through Penticton’s downtown past 7 breweries before making their way out above the clay banks to amble along Kettle Valley Rail Trail past eateries and another brewery on the trail before arriving at the finish line for more beer, food, music and fun. Shuttles will depart regularly from the finish line to take participants back to town.
