JUNE 8th, 2019 reports that when it comes to small towns with big beer scenes, Penticton still dominates. Cannery Brewing Co. picked up some new silver and bronze medals in the 2018 awards season for Heist Maple Stout and Thornless fruit beer; Bad Tattoo Brewing took home Best Pilsner at this year’s Fest of Ale. What’s the Fest of Ale? Well, if you have to ask, we question your dedication to the craft, but we’ll humour you: It’s an amazing and super-popular beerfest that takes place in Penticton every April. There are plenty more events in this thriving community, too, like the Penticton Beer Run, which happens in June, or a beer crawl along the Penticton arm of the BC Ale Trail. Needless to say, you’ll have some epic tales of tannins and esters after a visit to this sessionable city.

Race Course – Click here for the 2018 course map! – 2019 course map will change slightly due to increase in registration and new breweries opening in Penticton!

This is a beautiful, gentle 10 km course showing off some of the best vistas in the South Okanagan. The flat or gentle downhill route is easily managed by running or walking.

The start line is right inside a genuine Hops Farm, from there scenery just gets better as you come along the Kettle Valley Railway and clay banks above the lake and into Penticton’s downtown.  After a few brewery samples and a couple food/water pit stops you’ll travel along the waterfront, past the historic paddle wheeler and down the channel waterway. A couple blocks off the channel runners will visit another brewery and then then head to the finish line to celebrate!

Brewery and Eatery Overview

The Beer Run will include tastings from the Cannery Brewery, Bad Tattoo, Tin Whistle, Barley Mill, Highway 97 and Firehall Breweries, Smugglers Smokehouse, Patio Burger and Papa John’s Eateries!  Firehall Brewery will be set up at the start line for your first taste of the local Micro-brew scene, you will run down the KVR and past Papa John’s tent to Cannery Brewery, then past Hoodoo Adventure Company just across the Street where you will find Barley Mill Brewery.  From there you will head to Bad Tattoo and then down the lakeshore past Smugglers  to Tin Whistle at Patio Burger and along the Channel Parkway to Highway 97 Brewery before finishing with live music, more beer and great eats.   What a way to spend the day!  Please note:  the  course may change in 2019 due to new breweries opening in Penticton!
